50 Reasons to Send a Card This Year
Share
I'm not sure if you've noticed, but it's so easy to find a card for the big, fun stuff — birthdays, holidays, weddings, you know, the happy occasions. And yet there are so many other card-worthy moments that somehow get lost.
Because I'm passionate about cards and all they can do for people, I present to you 50 moments worth a card this year.
Moments of Grief & Struggle
- They lost someone, and you don't know what to say (but you want them to know you're thinking of them.)
- It's been six months since the funeral, and everyone else has stopped checking in.
- They're going through a diagnosis. (Theirs or someone they love)
- They experienced a pregnancy or infant loss (a kind of grief people don't always know how to talk about)
- A pet passed away, and it hurts more than people expect it to.
- Their engagement or relationship ended before it was supposed to.
- A promotion, opportunity, or dream fell through.
- They're caregiving for someone, and no one's asked how they're doing.
- It's the anniversary of a loss, and you remember even if no one else brings it up.
- They're grieving something no one else recognizes as a loss (an ended friendship, a plan that didn't happen, a version of life they thought they'd have.)
Everyday Moments Worth Celebrating
- They finally did the thing they'd been putting off.
- You're working and you just thought of them.
- They made you laugh so hard you had to tell them.
- They're having a rough week and could use proof someone noticed.
- They hosted you and it was lovely.
- They gave good advice that actually helped.
- They're always the one checking in on everyone else.
- You're grateful for them and haven't said it out loud in a while.
- They did something kind that most people would've missed.
- They're waiting on news (test results, a decision, an answer)
Milestones & New Beginnings
- They started a new job.
- They moved somewhere new and don't know anyone yet.
- They graduated, at any age, from anything.
- They're expecting, and it's early, and they haven't told everyone yet.
- They finally left something behind that wasn't serving them anymore (a job, a relationship, a habit)
- They bought their first home.
- They're retiring.
- Their kid started school, or left for college, or moved out.
- They got sober, or hit a milestone in recovery.
- They said no (or yes) to something new.
Support & Encouragement
- They're in the thick of a hard decision (and need to know someone's rooting for them.)
- They're doubting themselves right before something big.
- They said yes to something scary.
- They're exhausted in a way that sleep doesn't fix.
- They keep showing up for everyone else (and rarely get to be on the receiving end.)
- They're rebuilding after something fell apart.
- They're waiting for their prayers to be answered.
- They need reminding that this season isn't forever.
- They're the strong one, and no one checks on the strong one.
- They're trying again after a loss, a failure, a hard no.
Gratitude & Quiet Wins
- They won something, even something small.
- You ran into an old friend you hadn't seen in years, and you're still thinking about the impact they had on you.
- They did something brave that nobody else noticed.
- It's an anniversary (a wedding, a friendship, a sobriety date, a survival)
- They hit a goal they've been working toward.
- They helped you through one of the hardest seasons of your life (and you never got the chance to properly thank them.)
- Your grateful for the memories you shared.
- Someone made an investment in you (financially, emotionally, or otherwise) and you're still grateful for it.
- You miss them and haven't said so.
- You saw a card and it reminded you of them.
A Card Can Do More Than You Think
It can be the encouragement someone needed to get through a hard moment they didn't think they could get through. It might even be something they reach for time and time again after you sent it... a reminder to keep going because they weren't forgotten.
All of that because on a random Tuesday, they received a card they weren't expecting.
That's pretty powerful.
